For the first time in more than a decade, the Listowel Cyclones are Cherrey Cup champions.

The cyclones blanked Elmira 3-0 Sunday night to claim their first GOJHL Midwestern Conference Title since the 2004-05 season.

Cullen Mercer scored the opener – and eventual game-winner – for the Cyclones late in the first period, while Holdyn Lansink added two goals in the third period.

Brock Baier saved all 26 shots he faced to pick up the shutout.

Speaking to CTV News, Listowel captain Caleb Warren said he had “no words to describe” the feeling of winning the championship.

“Being a hometown kid, these are the moments you dream of,” he said.

Sunday’s game marked the fourth straight win for the Cyclones, who had dropped the first two games of the series to the Sugar Kings.

Both teams will now advance to the four-team Sutherland Cup to determine the GOJHL champions. The Cyclones will face the London Nationals while the Sugar Kings take on the Caledonia Corvairs.
