A lifeguard and an off-duty paramedic are being credited with saving the life of a man who was rescued from Lake Huron.

Police say a 21-year-old man was swimming at Grand Bend Beach yesterday when he began experiencing distress and had to be pulled from the water.

They say he was initially breathing but soon became unconscious and unresponsive once pulled up onto the beach.

The lifeguard and paramedic began CPR and were able to revive the man, who was then taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Police say the man is an international student who was studying in Ontario.
