The Laurier Golden Hawks opened their playoff series against Queens with a thrilling 1-0 win on Thursday night in triple overtime.  Tammy Freiburger scored the winner at the 4:23 mark of triple OT giving the Hawks a 1-0 series lead in the best of three. 

Game 2 is on Saturday in Kingston and Game 3 if necessary is Sunday.

Laurier goaltender Amanda Smith was stellar on the series opener making 49 saves for the shutout.  The Golden Hawks are the number six seed in this year’s women’s playoffs and they are the defending OUA champions. 

In other action Thursday, the Guelph Gryphons defeated Ryerson 2-1 in overtime at the Gryphon Centre.  Kelly Gribbons scored the winner giving Guelph a 1-0 series lead over the Rams.
