Police spent a ninth straight day digging through the Waterloo Region Landfill, looking for evidence that may lead them to Catherine Todd.

Todd, 48, was reported missing from her Kitchener home March 21 – several days after she was last seen.

A 25-year-old Kitchener man, James Parise, was charged with second-degree murder five days later, even though Todd’s body has not been found.

Police say Todd is presumed dead.

Also missing is a cream-coloured loveseat that was taken from Todd’s Lorraine Avenue apartment.

Police say they have reason to believe the loveseat is in a certain section of the landfill, and it may lead them to Todd’s body.

Officers have been at the landfill during daylight hours every day since March 27, sifting through material in the section where they believe the loveseat to be.

A specially trained canine unit was even discussed as a possible resource to aid police in their search.

“We had considered the use of cadaver dogs,” Staff Sgt. Chris Downey tells CTV.

“The concern there, with the handlers, is that because it’s a landfill and there are a number of different organic processes underway, that it may not provide any result.”

Parise remains in custody, with his next court appearance set for May 1.
