About a week ago Daryl Lainson woke up to find that his highly customized mobility bike had been stolen from his front porch.

Locked up and under a tarp, Lainson says the bike was stolen overnight July 22nd sometime between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 am the next day.

“I had to come to grips with the fact that it was gone and what it meant that the fun is gone for the rest of the summer,” he said.

Born with Spina Bifida, the bike was bought from a company in California that takes a person’s specific disabilities and requirements and customizes it.

A typical order takes at least six months to be fulfilled.

While he does have the use of a wheelchair to get around, the bike is an important mobility aid for him that he uses to socialize.

“When they took away the hand biking they took away my ability to control health but also took away my ability to share stuff with my family.”

Once the customization was complete the bike cost about $7,500.

Lainson says it’s not likely he can replace the bike since his insurance policy won’t cover the cost of the stolen bike.

“The bike is special, If you are lucky enough to get one, I felt very blessed to have it,” said   Lainson.

He’s asking anyone who may recognize it from the photo to call the police and return it.
