The bingo hopper that is Waterloo Region’s 2015 construction season has struck again, turning up the intersection of King and Wellington streets.

Monday morning, Kate Geo showed at her King Street tattoo parlour – only to find that her usual detour along Wellington Street was no longer accessible.

“I was in huge disbelief,” she said.

“There’s no legal way of getting here. (You can) cut through parking lots, or go the wrong way down King Street.”

Geo says she was told workers would be in the area to flag traffic looking to access her shop.

Other business owners say they heard the same thing, although no flagging operations were evident Monday afternoon.

Past Wellington, King has only one lane of traffic moving – for westbound vehicles, which takes them away from Geo’s store.

“I can’t get to my own business,” she said.

Geo says she wants to see a clear route into her parking lot, marked by detour signs – as well as better communication from the people overseeing the construction.

In an email, a spokesperson for LRT construction consortium GrandLinq said that the organization has held 350 meetings with local businesses, and responded to nearly 800 messages left on their hotline.
