The Jacob Hespeler Hawks wasted no time showing the other Waterloo County Secondary Schools that they are the team to beat again this year.

The Hawks defeated the Preston Panthers convincingly 35-0 under the lights at home on Thursday night.  Last year, the team went undefeated on their way to winning the WCSSAA.

Hespeler was led by a strong game from quarterback Jackson White who threw for a couple of touchdowns.  During one play in the third quarter, White rolled left out of the pocket but couldn’t find an open receiver.  He then doubled back, across the entire field, before seeing Connor Gardiner break free from coverage.  Gardiner and White connected often during the game, with Gardiner catching two touchdown passes.

Preston had a tough time keeping up with the speedy Hawks players.  Tyler Gibner did manage to catch up to White at least once, however.  Gibner recorded a quarterback sack in the second quarter.

Brett Wilson and Chris Wahl led the way for the Hawks on the ground, both finding the end zone.

Both teams now have a week off before their next game.  Jacob Hespeler SS plays Eastwood CI next Friday and Preston HS goes to Grand River CI.  Both games are 3pm kickoffs.
