Two people were taken to hospital with burn injuries following an incident at a Kitchener business.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday, emergency responders were called to a business on Joseph Street, west of Victoria Street.

At the scene, they found two men with burn injuries.

One was taken to a local hospital. An air ambulance was called in to transport the other man to a hospital in Hamilton.

“The incident is connected to what we believe was a disturbance, involving two men who were known to each other,” Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel told CTV News.

“There was a fire involved. How that fire may have started and the specifics related to that are part of the ongoing investigation.”

Region of Waterloo EMS said the airlifted man was in life-threatening condition, while the other man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Further details regarding the incident were not immediately known, although police say they are investigating it as a criminal act.

“There are other aspects to this that we’re not in a position to discuss just yet,” Heinzel said.
