Swedish furniture giant Ikea is coming to Kitchener – sort of.

Officials with the company and city announced Tuesday that a ‘pickup point’ location would be opened in the city within the next few months.

Under the company’s ‘pickup point’ model, shoppers will order their desired orders online and then pick them up at the Kitchener location for a $20 fee.

The location will also include a home furnishing showroom, with some of Ikea’s most popular products available for immediate purchase.

The store is expected to open in the spring of 2016 on Gateway Park Drive, in the Sportsworld area.

It will be about one-tenth the size of a typical Ikea store, and employ 30 to 35 people.

Earlier this year, London, Ont., was announced as the host of the first ‘pickup point’ Ikea location in North America.
