A driver escaped injury Thursday after hydro lines fell across his vehicle during stormy weather.

It happened shortly after 4:30, on Blandford-Blenheim Township Road 8 near Wolverton, east of Drumbo and west of Ayr.

A slow-moving storm was in the area at the time, and the township’s deputy fire chief says the storm brought down a number of trees at the roadside.

“The trees brought down several hydro poles, with the wires down on a vehicle,” Kevin Harmer said.

The man remained in the vehicle for more than an hour, as officials waited for hydro to be shut off so the wires could safely be removed.

“The occupant in the vehicle was very smart to stay in the vehicle,” Harmer said.

“He was safe while he was in there.”

Power was knocked out to a wide area due to the fallen lines.

Hydro One was reporting a power outage affecting about 3,500 people in an area including Plattsville, Princeton and Bright. They expected service to be restored by 7:30 p.m.

Power outages were also reported in Ayr, although details were not available.

The driver was not injured.
