A cold and windy Saturday morning wasn’t enough to deter hundreds of local Girl Guides from learning about hunger and homelessness.

About 200 guides and family members brought donations for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region to Waterloo’s Bechtel Park.

They then walked a 2.5-kilometre route through the park together, stopping at certain spots to learn about the food bank’s role in the community.

“We want them to know that it’s around, and that they can do something to help,” Girl Guides leader Brenda Yallop said in an interview.

The donations collected were enough to fill about 30 boxes for the food bank.
