Hamilton police say a man charged in connection with the abduction of a child is now facing an additional charge of attempted murder.

John Greene, 29, of Hamilton, is facing multiple charges after police allege a young victim was abducted from a home and sexually assaulted on May 17.

Police say following an investigation they now believe Greene "intended to end the life of the young victim."

The new charge has now been laid in addition to numerous charges previously laid in connection to the incident, including abduction, aggravated sexual assault and threatening death.

No details have been released about the child and police say they will not be commenting further on the case due to a publication ban.
