A 22-year-old man from Guelph has been charged in connection to an incident involving two dogs that were sprayed with bear spray.

Police said one of the dogs was also beat.

Police received a call Thursday morning by concerned family members that a man returned to a home on Clough Crescent and abused the animals.

When police arrived on scene there was a strong odour of the bear spray at the house. Police said the suspect was not cooperating and they arrested him.

A puppy and another dog were found shivering and smelling of bear spray in cages.

Police said both animals were given to the Humane Society for further care and to be treated for their injuries. One of the dogs had a cut above its eye.

Naymatullah Sayfi has been charged with administering a noxious substance, animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance.
