A busy intersection in Guelph was expected to be closed for most of Tuesday following a possible water main break.

Water leakage at Gordon and Water streets was first noticed around 8 a.m.

City crews came in to investigate whether a water main break was indeed the cause of the leakage, and to repair the issue.

While that work took place, the intersection was closed. Drivers were being asked to use College Avenue, Edinburgh Road and Wellington Street as a detour.

City officials said the repairs could be completed and intersection reopened by late in the day Tuesday.

The issue was not expected to affect any water service or cause any health risks.
