A popular rink which created a hullaballoo in Guelph’s south end this week won’t be decommissioned just yet.

City officials said Friday that the Pine Ridge-area rink remain open to the public “until a significant thaw.”

However, music and lights – which prompted complaints about the rink from a neighbour – will be forbidden, and the ice can only be used from sunrise to sunset, at users’ on risk.

The rink has been used for the past five winters.

It ran afoul of city bylaws earlier this month, as it had been built on city-owned land – which Mayor Cam Guthrie said created liability and safety issues for the city.

City officials call it the decision an interim measure that will allow time to find a long-term outdoor rink option for the neighbourhood.
