A male volunteer at the Elmira Theatre Company is facing numerous charges following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.

The alleged relationship occurred more than two years ago when the girl was 12, but an investigation by the Guelph Police Service was only initiated earlier this month.

Jeffrey Dakin, 38, of Guelph, is charged with four counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual interference, five counts of invitation to sexual touching and one count of luring.

Dakin had volunteered at the Elmira Theatre Company as well as various other theatre groups in southwestern Ontario, including the Guelph Little Theatre.

The girl apparently met Dakin at the Elmira Theatre Company.

Guelph Police Sgt. Doug Pflug says "I think this investigation took a totality of maybe three or four days. When it came in the officers deemed it to be real and very serious. They threw the necessary resources at it and we're happy to say that this person was arrested and is before the courts today."

Dakin was arrested on Thursday night and made a court appearance on Friday, but the bail hearing was adjourned until Monday.

The police investigation in the case continues and anyone with information is asked to step forward.
