For the first time, Statistics Canada has taken a look at the “life satisfaction” in 33 urban areas across the country.

They accomplished this by asking at least 1,400 people to rank “how (they) feel about their life as  a whole” on a scale of one to 10.

The numbers don’t vary all that much, with less than 0.5 points separating the most satisfied part of Canada (Saugenay, Que.,) and the least (Vancouver).

Locally, people who spoke with Statistics Canada reported low levels of satisfaction with their lives.

Guelphites scored their satisfaction levels at an average of 7.858 – ahead of only Windsor, Toronto and Vancouver.

Waterloo Region’s respondents were five slots further down, at 7.887, while the average satisfaction in Brantford was 7.897 for the 12th-lowest mark in the country.

The highest satisfaction score recorded, Saugenay’s, was 8.245.

Sudbury residents reported the highest level of life satisfaction in Ontario, at 8.167.

Across the country, a total of 340,000 people were surveyed for the study between 2009 and 2013.
