The Grand River Conservation Authority is also investigating expenses claimed by Woolwich Township Mayor Todd Cowan.

GRCA board chair Jane Mitchell confirmed to CTV News that the organizations has asked the township and Region of Waterloo to look at expense claims submitted by Cowan to that organization.

Mitchell said she feels they are doing their “due diligence,” after Cowan revealed Monday that he had double billed $2,700 worth of mileage and travel expenses to both the township and the region.

The discovery came to light following a freedom of information request, submitted by a member of the public, regarding Cowan’s expenses.

Cowan has paid back the double-billed expenses.

A spokesperson for the township said the investigation should be complete by next week.
