Three people have been arrested in connection with a series of break-ins that allegedly stretched around Waterloo Region and into other parts of southern Ontario.

Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Alana Russell says the charges against the three Kitchener men relate to nine break-ins reported from within Waterloo Region.

“We do believe there were others outside of the region, in areas such as Caledon and Stratford,” she said in an interview.

Three of the properties hit in the region were golf courses – Merry Hill, Rebel Creek and Savannah. Others were building supply stores.

Police say the three men broke into the facilities, dismantled security systems, and stole items like cash, golf equipment and building supplies.

Damage from all of the known break-ins is estimated at $30,000, not including any of the stolen property.

Mike Turner is a vice-president with Golf North, which operates Rebel Creek.

He says the people who broke into the clubhouse there “went straight for the cash” and “didn’t do much damage” to the facility.

Turner thinks Rebel Creek and other courses might have been targeted because of their rural locations.

“By the time police get there, they’re long gone,” he said.
