Friends are mourning the loss of 26-year-old Joshua Wege. The Kitchener man was killed Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a van on Erb Street West near Dietz Avenue.

Lindsay Vincze, a close family friend, said Vega was a kind hearted man who always made everyone smile.

“He is a very happy, cheerful man, always has been,” Vincze said.

“Even if there was something negative to say, he would never say it. He would always just bring the positive out of everybody,” she added.

Police aren’t sure exactly what caused the crash. Witnesses attempted CPR but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We appreciate and we say thank you to everybody who was involved in helping, and sorry for the people in the van. This is not easy for them either,” said Vincze.

A memorial is growing at the site of the crash. Natasha Fetter lives nearby and wanted to pay her respects, even though she didn’t know Wege personally.

“It just really affected me and I went home and I found out what happened and I just felt really heartbroken,” Fetter said,

“I wanted to show them that people care,” said Fetter, after laying a rose at the memorial.

Wege’s family is holding a memorial at the Henry Walser Funeral Home on October 15. They’re asking anyone attending to wear blue, Josh’s favourite colour.

“When we were miserable and down, he was our rock, and our person to go to,” Vincze said about Wege.
