A man who led a scout troop in Brantford in the 1970s is accused of sexually abusing one of the group’s members – and police say there may be more victims.

Chesley Cowie, a 64-year-old Port Hope resident who also goes by Chet, was arrested Wednesday.

Brantford Police say Cowie previously lived in Brantford – where he volunteered with the Boy Scouts and coached in the Brantford Church Hockey League.

Between 1972 and 1975, police allege, he befriended a boy and sexually abused him multiple times, including while on a scout trip to the United Kingdom.

Cowie faces charges of gross indecency and committing an indecent assault.

Police say they believe there may be more victims and want to hear from anyone with relevant information.
