Waterloo Region residents looking for a sunny getaway will once again be able to catch a flight to the Dominican Republic without having to head to Toronto.

The Region of Waterloo International Airport announced Thursday that Sunwing Vacations will once again offer flights from the region to Punta Cana, as it did earlier in the decade.

Last winter, Sunwing’s seasonal service tried out a route to Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba, after several years of flying to Cancun, Mexico.

“Punta Cana is one of our top international destinations, and the addition of Sunwing’s direct weekly departure will provide a great option for guests looking for a winter escape,” airport general manager Chris Wood said in a press release.

The weekly flights to Punta Cana will run on Thursdays between Dec. 22 and March 23.
