The fire that destroyed a business and sent a black plume of smoke into the air above Baden was not intentionally set, authorities say.

“It’s an accidental fire,” Skye Lorimer from the Office of the Fire Marshal said Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the business – Seasons Grande on Snyder’s Road East – Monday afternoon.

When they arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the roof.

“It spread through the structure very quickly,” said Andrew McMillan of Wilmot Fire.

The fire was intense enough that firefighters could only attack it from outside the building, which ended up being demolished.

Firefighters say the owners of the garden and landscaping centre are “very upset” at their loss.

It is believed that there were plans in the works to tear down the building and build a new structure for the business on the same site.
