Seven fire stations and more than 50 firefighters responded to a large fire at an industrial business park on Haldimand Rd 55 near Townsend in Hagersville.

According to fire chief Rob Grimwood, it appears that bags of shredded rubber caught fire outside of a business called Clear Blue Sorbents in the industrial park.

How they caught fire is still not yet known.

According to officials fire hydrants on the property stopped working during the attack, and firefighters had to start trucking in water from other places.

Once known as Camp Hagersville, the park was used in WWII by the Royal Canadian Air Force as a training school and later by the Canadian Army as a base.

The former camp is now the White Oaks Industrial Business Park.

Both the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change have been notified.

The damage estimate sits at about $5 million dollars.
