A fire that began in a shed and spread to a nearby church is being investigated as arson, Woodstock Police say.

Just before 12:30 a.m., two people noticed a shed on fire behind the Huron Park Baptist Church on Berwick Street and promptly called 911.

Before long, the fire had jumped to the roof of the church itself.

Although firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, heat caused two windows in the church to shatter.

A nearby trailer also suffered heat damage.

Police say they’re reviewing video surveillance from the time of the fire, and forensic officers were on-scene Tuesday, but they still want to hear from anyone with information relevant to their investigation.

Damage is estimated at $30,000.
