Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a stubborn fire at an industrial building in Guelph.

Fire crews were called to 10 Kingsmill Avenue just before 10 p.m. The building was engulfed in flames and thick smoke filled the air.

The blaze was so intense that additional fire crews had to be called in.

The heavy smoke also created visibility issues in the area, so police closed Victoria Road South between York Road and Elizabeth Street for several hours.

Firefighters finally got the fire under control around 3:45 a.m.

The building was mostly empty and no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigators say they haven’t ruled out arson.

The Ontario Fire Marshalls office has been called in to investigate.
