Former Waterloo financial advisor Jennifer Killins was back in a Kitchener court Friday, though only by video.

Accused of defrauding 22 people out of up to $1.5 million, Killins remains in custody, as she will until a Jan. 7 bail hearing.

Killins was represented by a court-appointed lawyer Friday, but may still hire her own lawyer before Jan. 7.

Killins is facing seven charges relating to fraud, theft and forgery.

In 2011, Killins lost her mutual fund license after soliciting client money for her own company.

That led her to change her name to Jenn Stokes, write a financial advice book and move her practice from a Waterloo strip mall to her Toronto home.

Though not willing to speak to the media, several alleged victims have been in the court for each of Killins’ court appearances.

One has become a noticeable presence outside the courthouse, calling himself ‘The Annoyed Orange’ and protesting while dressed in orange clothing and a skeleton mask.

The man does not want to tell his full story, saying he wants to protect his family.
