Dionne Campbell says the last 48 hours with out her son have been devastating, the call to the morgue the hardest thing imaginable.

“They told me they don't have anybody there by that name, and he was John Doe”  says Campbell.

Her son, 20-year-old Devane Campbell of Brantford was killed Friday night in Kitchener outside of a housing complex on Elm Ridge Drive. His mother thinks Devane may have been in the region visiting either friends or a girlfriend.

Police believe this wasn't a random attack and say they're trying to find out if Devane knew his killer.

Superintendant Kevin Chalk says, “There was clearly something that incited the altercation that took place what it was we don't know at this point.”

An autopsy done in Hamilton revealed that Campbell died as a result of gunshot wounds. His Family says he was shot 3 times, once in the upper arm, once in the upper back and the fatal blow to his neck.

“I am not going to tell you he was innocent” says Dionne, “No he gave me a lot of trouble he had problems with the law but nothing severe not big nothing major.”

According to his family Devane, liked to dance, enjoyed watching ultimate fighting and loved making his family laugh.

“Always remember Devane saying don't I look good you wished you looked good like me.”

The family is now calling on those responsible to step up and turn themselves in.
