It was one year ago on Monday when the small town of St. George rallied around seven-year-old Evan Leversage to help him celebrate Christmas early.

Evan was suffering from an inoperable brain tumor. His family was told last October he wasn’t likely to survive until his favourite holiday.

He died in early December in 2015.

Last October, the community came together to organize a special parade for the little boy. There was artificial snow, Christmas lights and thousands of supporters.

Members of the community have been asked to turn on their Christmas lights Monday evening in memory of Evan.

“We’re not expecting everyone to go full out, but just to put the lights so we can keep that memory of just how magical last year was,” says Nicole Wellwood, Evan’s mom.

Evan’s family will be driving along the streets of St. George to look at the lights as a simple tribute to him.

Thousands in and around St. George are expected to be there in the celebration of Evan’s life.

A toy drive will also be taking place to help Brant County families in need.
