Environment Canada has confirmed an EF-2 tornado with winds of 180 to 220 km/h hit Teviotdale Sunday. The damage path was approximately 9 km long by 200 metres wide.

“We have a lot to be thankful for,” said Erma Weber. The home her daughters live in was severely damaged in the tornado. The roof was ripped off, and walls collapsed. The women were not home at the time of the storm.

”The daughter that usually sleeps in this bedroom she's... A higher hand led her not to come home,” Weber said through tears.

Another home received moderate damage.

“It’s still a very early stage, so we don’t know what the total damage effect is going to be at this point,” said Andy Lennox, mayor of Wellington North.

A number of barns in Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton were also severely damaged. Four OPP cruisers were damaged during the storm. Luckily there were no reports of injury.

The area was pelted with hail ranging from dime to golf ball sized. Downed trees and hydro lines caused thousands to lose power. Many farms were also damaged.

“If you’re coming home or you feel you have damage get a hold of us tomorrow through our website or phone the offices and let us know so we can get out and do some assessments,” George Bridge, mayor of Minto.

There were reports of damage in the Proton Station area, but Environment Canada didn`t think it was consistent with a tornado.

This is the third confirmed tornado in Ontario this year.
