The humidity didn’t deter people from spending time outside today. The Chicopee resort was packed with people taking part in a Disc Golf tournament.

While the sport has been around for close to three decades – it’s starting to gain momentum in Waterloo Region.

“Instead of a bag of clubs, you have a bag of discs. So if you wanted to throw what would be a six iron in golf, you would use a mid-range disc, in that case,” says Jonathan Ruch, Tournament Director.

Disc Golf is played on a course and players keep score just like traditional golf. However, instead of hitting a ball with a club, players throw a disc across a field.

Aaron Larson has been playing the sport for a number of years. He says it’s a much more affordable way to spend time outdoors.

“I always say that it takes a nice walk in the park and makes it an unbelievable walk in the park,” says Larson, Disc Golf Enthusiast.
