As family members looked on, Derrick Lawlor’s application for bail was denied Friday.

Lawlor, 53, is accused of killing Mark McCreadie and leaving his body in a near Victoria Park earlier this year.

In April, the 50-year-old McCreadie was found dead in a wooded area near the park.

Police believe he was strangled to death.

Lawlor, a former student advisor at the University of Waterloo, has a manslaughter conviction on his record stemming from a 1985 incident in Newfoundland and Labrador.
