It’s official! Delta Hotels announced Tuesday morning that it’s opening a new $36-million hotel in Waterloo’s Barrel Yards development.
Delta is going to be Waterloo’s first four-star hotel. It’s slated to open next summer.
CTV News has learned the Delta Network of Hotels and Resorts is undergoing an intensive rebranding and development.
The Delta Waterloo will be part of the 14-acre Barrel Yards development project at Erb Street near Father David Bauer Drive.
The hotel will be a nine-storey building. It will be designed as a boutique-style hotel with a full service restaurant and lounge, a fitness facility with a retreat style pool, a business centre and approximately 8 thousand square feet of meeting and conference space.
It will also include a 3,000 square foot ballroom.
Auburn Developments and the City of Waterloo have been negotiating with Delta over the past eight months.
Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran says the chain will fill a void in the Uptown core, “There has been a request from many of our Uptown businesses, people like the Perimeter, CIGI, a lot of the business leaders have been asking for an upscale hotel in our Uptown core to provide the services that they require.”
Delta’s current property in Kitchener on King Street and Benton will no longer operate under the Delta brand as of March 2013.
