Firefighters were able to stop flames from spreading far beyond an apartment in Waterloo’s north end early Thursday morning.

The fire occurred shortly after midnight in a ground-floor unit at 539 Parkside Drive.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, responding firefighters were able to quickly get the flames under control.

Tenants were evacuated from the building during the firefighting efforts, while the street was closed to traffic.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, but is not believed to be suspicious.

Damage, consisting of damage to the apartment where the flames broke out and some smoke damage to a hallway, is estimated at $75,000.
