Police now say a collision where a bicycle ended up wedged between a car and a construction fence Friday afternoon was the result of a road rage incident.

The collision occurred around 3:30 p.m., at Duke and College streets in downtown Kitchener.

Staff Sergeant John Vanbreda said in his 27 years on the force, he has never seen it go this far.

"The motorist ended up intentionally striking the cyclist…in what we describe as catapulting him over a fence. And at the same time…also struck a parked car," said Vanbreda.

Police believe the driver and the cyclist got into an argument on the road on Duke and College.

The argument continued and moved into a nearby parking lot, and that's when police say things got heated.

A 28-year-old Waterloo man has been charged with dangerous operation of motor vehicle and assault with a weapon.

Paramedics say the cyclist was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the car was not injured.
