Last year, the average wait time in Grand River Hospital's emergency department was 4.5 hours.

That's more than the provincial average, but less than the seven hour times the hospital logged earlier this decade.

In a special series, CTV's Max Wark looks at the state of emergency rooms across Waterloo Region.

He finds out what causes lengthier wait times, and what hospital officials are doing to try and alleviate those problems.
