Since June 1, police in southern Bruce County have dealt with 15 crashes involving vehicles and deer.

No injuries to humans were reported in any of the crashes, but it’s a number significant enough for South Bruce OPP to issue a warning reminding drivers of how to safely avoid such collisions.

OPP say drivers should be attentive at all times, but especially between sunset and midnight, as well as in the hours before and after sunrise.

Motorists should also use high-beam headlights when no other traffic is nearby, use their horn to frighten deer away and remember that deer rarely travel alone.

If a deer is blocking or close to blocking your path of travel, police say you should brake firmly rather than swerve around the animal.

Any collisions involving injuries or damage of more than $1,000 are required to be reported to police.
