More than two weeks after it attacked a young girl, a dog was finally seized by Animal Services Cambridge on Monday afternoon.

There were a number of incidents in the past year that had officials attempting to have the dog designated as dangerous.

Back in April the dog, whose name is Vlad, bit a 12-year-old boy while he was biking in a nearby park, and earlier this month it bit a 5-year-old girl as she also biked in a Cambridge park.

There are also reports of the dog attacking other dogs in the area.

Officials have been trying to have the dog designated as dangerous but haven’t been able to do so due to lack of co-operation from the dog’s owner.

On Thursday night the city of Cambridge was able to get in touch with the owner and obtained a court order to seize the animal Friday.

However, the city did not execute it right away, instead giving the dog’s owner the chance to talk with a lawyer.

The owner brought Vlad to Animal Services Monday afternoon, but did not surrender him willingly.

The dog was then seized by staff, which means the owner will be able to fight for him in court.

The courts will now decide what happens next – the owner could face fines, or the dog could be euthanized.

The family of the girl that was attacked is happy the dog has been seized, but is considering hiring a lawyer due to lack of action on the part of the city, public health, and Animal Services Cambridge.
