Some households where garbage and other waste sat out at the curb Tuesday morning likely won’t see the waste picked up until Wednesday.

Region of Waterloo officials said Tuesday afternoon that garbage and recycling trucks were running into delays dropping off their loads at the Waterloo landfill site because of heavy traffic in the area due to the first day of sales at the new Costco store across the street.

“Crews picking up the garbage, green bin and recycling in the tri-cities will attempt to collect as much as possible from the Tuesday collection areas,” the region said in a news release.

“However, it is expected that some streets will remain uncollected. Residents are asked to please leave items at the curb for collection on Wednesday.

If any homes with Tuesday collection still haven’t seen pickup by the end of Wednesday, they are asked to bring it inside and notify the region by calling 519-575-4400.

Waste pickup in Waterloo Region’s townships was not expected to be delayed past Tuesday.
