A fire forced the evacuation of Waterloo’s largest shopping mall Tuesday morning.

Around 10 a.m., shoppers and workers at Conestoga Mall were told to leave the building due to a fire in the food court.

Fire officials tell CTV News the fire began when a staff member at Spring Rolls was preparing food for the lunchtime rush when a pot on the grill caught fire.

Responding firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames, although they remained on-scene for some time to clear the mall of smoke.

By 11 a.m., authorities were allowing people back into the mall.

No injuries were reported, and the damage estimate sits at $10,000.
