A 20-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl were both seriously hurt Tuesday when they fell from a bridge in Goderich.

Huron County OPP say they were notified of the falls just after 12:15 p.m., after which they, paramedics, firefighters and the Canadian Coast Guard all responded to the Maitland River below the Menestung Bridge.

Two people who saw the people fall had gone into the river and attempted to rescue them before emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The 17-year-old, a Bluewater resident, was airlifted to a London hospital. The 20-year-old, who lives in Goderich, was taken to a local hospital.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, both were said to have serious injuries.
