As Christians worldwide celebrate the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ during Good Friday, a ceremony in Walkerton does it a bit differently.

Seven churches from seven denominations put aside their differences to gather for ‘The Walk
of Witness’.

From church to church, a cross is carried by young people. The slow procession starts early Friday morning and visits 7 churches: Pentecostal, Lutheran, Anglican, United, Baptist, Presbyterian and Roman Catholic.

“I think it just really made you remember that Jesus was carrying it too, and it was a very heartfelt experience,” says Kaitlyn Monk who carried the cross.

Reverend Rob Hiscox carried the cross thirty years ago as a young man and says in that time the message hasn't changed.

“The message of Christ’s love for us is timeless and it’s still the same as it was when I was a youth carrying the cross,” he says.

The walk of witness doesn't focus on the seven Christian denominations but instead on the cross, the most powerful symbol in the Christian faith.

“I think this is a great opportunity for us. Not to let our differences separate us, but to celebrate that diversity in god and come together and hear all the different expressions from different communities of faith,” added Reverend Chad Honneyman from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
