A Waterloo man is charged with criminal negligence causing death following a collision that left an 18-month-old boy dead.

Waterloo Regional Police responded to the lot – on Amos Avenue in Waterloo – around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Police say they’re still piecing together the exact sequence of events, but believe the toddler was playing with other young children at a nearby family gathering.

Somehow, the child ended up in the lot, where he was hit by a vehicle being driven by a 49-year-old man.

Speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the collision.

The toddler became pinned underneath the vehicle, and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police continue to investigate the crash and want to hear from anyone who witnessed it or has other relevant information.

Monday, flowers and other items were left at a memorial for the boy outside his housing complex on Amos.
