In addition to losing her job, a Brant County woman who worked as a nurse at a long-term care home in Paris is now facing criminal charges.

Ontario Provincial Police announced Monday that Laura Erskine is facing charges of fraud and uttering a forged document.

Although Erskine graduated from Conestoga College’s nursing program in 2014 and was employed as a nurse, she had never registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

That registration is a requirement for anyone wanting to work as a nurse anywhere in the province.

Erskine, 28, lost her job at Park Lane Terrace in Paris after a CTV News report brought the issue to light.

The College of Nurses of Ontario, which had not listed Erskine in its database of nurses, now lists her as an unregistered nurse.

The college has also sent Erskine a letter warning her to stop working as a nurse, and continues to investigate the case.

In addition to her job at Park Lane Terrace, Erskine has worked at Queensview Retirement Community in Paris.
