A section of Kitchener was in the dark Friday morning because of a car crash.

Just before 6:30 a.m. a car collided with utility pole on Shanley Street near Moore Street.

The pole was damaged and power lines fell to the gound.

Around 2,300 residences lost power in the King Street, Louisa Street, Margaret Avenue and Blucher Street area.

A Kithener-Wimot Hydro was dispatched to the scene and power to a number of homes was restored by 8 a.m., but 700 remained without.

No word on what caused the crash.
