A Cambridge-based manufacturing company says it will create 50 new positions thanks in part to a boost from the provincial government.

Kromet International, which operates out of a facility on Sheldon Drive, makes handles, trim and other metal parts that are used in various products, including furniture and automobiles.

Wednesday, Cambridge MPP Kathryn McGarry visited Kromet’s plant to announce $800,000 in funding from the province.

The money will go toward the company’s planned $5.3-million expansion and automation of its Cambridge facility.

“The project has the potential to be transformative with new investments in technology that will increase our productivity and keep jobs here in Ontario,” company CEO Mike Owen said in a press release.
