Guelph Police say they were able to track down three people who allegedly broke into a south-end construction site and left when officers arrived.

It happened around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, after an off-duty police officer noticed suspicious activity at the Clair Road West site and notified his active counterparts.

Police say they arrived at the scene moments later, and were nearly hit by the vehicle containing the three accused as they left the area.

Officers tracked down the vehicle not far from the scene, along with one of the three alleged perpetrators; the other two were found after a ground search.

Facing charges of breaking and entering, theft and other offences are a 49-year-old Kitchener man, a 47-year-old Cambridge man and a 47-year-old Waterloo woman.

Items believed stolen from the construction site were found in the vehicle, police say.
