The body of a 49-year-old man reported missing earlier this week has been discovered near a bike path in Brantford.

Police say the body of Jeffrey Brian Powless was found in a grassy area near the banks of the Grand River around 8:30 a.m.

Authorities were called to the scene at Spalding and Ballantyne Drives by a witness who reported seeing someone sleeping in a culvert near the intersection.

Powless was reported missing Monday, but was last seen on Saturday night leaving his home on Sherwood Drive, not far from where he was found.

Family members were concerned for his well-being as he has a pre-existing medical condition.

Criminal and forensic investigators are assisting the coroner to try to determine what happened.

Powless’s body has been transported to a Hamilton hospital to undergo an autopsy.

Anyone who may have seen or spoken with Powless over the last few days is asked to contact police at 519-756-0113 Ext. 2262.
