Betty Albrecht, 59, the wife of federal Conservative Harold Albrecht, died Wednesday in hospital.

The couple had been married for 39 years. They have three married children and nine grandchildren.

Betty collapsed on Monday night, as she and her husband were at home preparing to attend the celebrations to mark his re-election in the federal riding of Kitchener-Conestoga.

She was transported to Hamilton General Hospital in critical condition, the result of a spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage, or bleeding in the brain due to the rupture of a blood vessel.

A release sent Wednesday by Harold's assistant David Drewe said "The family appreciates all the prayers and good wishes that have been extended, but at this time needs some quiet time to heal in privacy."

Funeral details are expected to be released in the coming days.
