The same man may be responsible for three bank robberies in Cambridge and one in Waterloo, all of which took place within 30 days, Waterloo Regional Police say.

“This number of incidents in a short period of time has our detectives concerned,” police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel told CTV News.

Police note a number of similarities in the robberies, including that they involved a man jumping over the bank’s counter and walking away with cash.

All four robberies also occurred during the daytime, and the robber in each case was wearing a hooded shirt – although the specific shirt varied from holdup to holdup.

“Essentially what we’re looking for right now is a white male, 25 to 30 years of age, around six feet to 6’3” with a fairly thin build,” Heinzel said.

Police are seeking the man connection with these four robberies:

  • April 24, at the CIBC branch on King Street East in Cambridge
  • May 5, at the Bank of Montreal branch on Dundas Street North in Cambridge
  • May 19, at the Bank of Montreal branch on Queen Street West in Cambridge
  • May 23, at the Scotiabank branch on Fischer-Hallman Road in Waterloo

The man is not believed to be the ‘Vaulter Bandit’ responsible for dozens of bank robberies across Canada, as that man is thought to be older.

No weapons were seen in any of the four robberies.
